The Umbrella Man is of a girl’s narrative of when she and her mother encounters an old man who was a trickster. He approaches pedestrians who are caught in the rain without umbrellas and offers them
one in exchange for a pound, to which he quicky heads to the pub and purchases a cup of whiskey before grabbing a stranger’s umbrella while leaving. The girl notes that he can keep the practice up all night, to which the mum replies ‘...I’ll bet he prays like mad for rainy days.’
In my design, raindrops are falling into a cup which is now whiskey, since he’s able to drink for ‘free’ every time it rains. I chose to work with fluorescent orange and pink since I wanted to experiment with the vibrant colours the risograph technique offers that other printing methods usually do not. And since orange is somewhat similar to brown (the colour of whiskey), it seemed even more suitable.
